Course Description

This workshop will provide introductory training for developing the basic understanding and skills necessary to use Statistical Process Control (SPC) to effectively control processes.  Attendees will learn how to reduce or eliminate defects by learning the tools to prevent defects from occurring.  Participants will also gain a knowledge of which SPC tools to apply for specific processes.  This course is based upon the AIAG automotive SPC reference manual which includes a copy for each participant.

Course Objectives

  • Understand process variation and the differences between common and special causes
  • Learn how to measure variation and calculate sigma, or deviation, in the process  
  • Decide which control chart to use, how to set them up, and how to interpret control charts to control the process
  • Identify variable and attribute data and which control chart is the best for the data
  • An introduction to using SPC software (Minitab)
