Alabama Technology Network Reports $392.3 Million Annual Economic Impact in FY 2023-24

MONTGOMERY, AL – According to an independent report by Lightcast, a global leader in labor market analytics, students and alumni of the Alabama Community College System (ACCS) contributed $8.1 billion to the state’s economy, an amount equal to about 3% of Alabama’s total gross state product.

The Alabama Technology Network (ATN), an entity of the Alabama Community College System, was highlighted in the System’s significant contributions to Alabama’s economy. According to the report, ATN generated $392.3 million in added income and supported 3,687 jobs across the state, reinforcing its critical role in advancing manufacturing, workforce development, and economic growth.

Additional Report Highlights:

• $8.5 million in added income from ATN’s operations spending, supporting 63 jobs.
• $383.8 million in added income from businesses supported by ATN, contributing to 3,624 jobs.
• A return of $6.50 in added tax revenue and public sector savings for every $1 invested in ATN.

Lightcast analyzed data using FY 2023-24 academic and financial reports from Alabama’s community and technical colleges, including the Alabama Technology Network, as well as industry and employment data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the U.S. Census Bureau.

The report also underscores ATN’s efforts in workforce development. In FY 2023-24, 2,925 non-credit students were trained, ensuring Alabama’s workforce remains competitive in a rapidly evolving industrial landscape.
